Victoria Suen founded Build X Design. She’s an OAA-licensed architect and PMP-certified project manager with over a decade in architecture, design, and branding, built at top firms in Toronto, Vancouver, and New York. She started Build X to bring that level of design thinking to local homeowners, investors, and small businesses.
One idea runs through everything the studio does: figure out what a space is for, then design it so it actually delivers that.
Victoria’s edge comes from working both sides of the table. As an architect, she knows zoning, building code, and construction detailing. As an investor, she underwrites deals, models pro formas, and reads a property the way developers do. She built both skill sets in Toronto’s multiplex space, running feasibility studies, unlocking density with fourplex, sixplex, garden suite, and laneway projects, and designing buildings that work on budget as well as on paper.
That mix of design and investment sense has made Build X Design one of the go-to firms for multiplex design across the Greater Toronto Area.
For Victoria, design has never been just a job. Missing middle housing is where it clicked. Toronto’s housing shortage sits between the single-family home and the high-rise tower, in the duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, sixplexes, garden suites, and laneway homes the city has been missing.
She saw that helping everyday homeowners and citizen developers build gentle density could change the city one block at a time. That’s what grew Build X Design from a one-person practice into a team of designers and project managers who all believe good multiplex design can chip away at the housing crisis, one property at a time.
